Spacecraft Attitude Estimation Using Adaptive Gaussian Sum Filter

چکیده
ABSTRACT This paper is concerned with improving the attitude estimation accuracy by implementing an adaptive Gaussian sum filter where the a posteriori density function is approximated by a sum of Gaussian density functions. Compared to the traditional Gaussian sum filter, this adaptive approach utilizes the Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov residual minimization to update the weights associated with different components of the Gaussian mixture model. Updating the weights provides an accurate approximation of the a posteriori density function and thus superior estimates. Simulation results show that updating the weights during the propagation stage not only provides better estimates between the observations but also provides superior estimator performance where the measurements are ambiguous.

Particle Filtering for Attitude Estimation Using a Minimal Local-Error Representation
Spacecraft attitude estimation is the process of determining the orientation of the spacecraft with respect to a reference frame. Many nonlinear filtering methods have been applied to spacecraft attitude estimation. The extended Kalman filter (EKF) has been the most widely used nonlinear filtering method for realtime attitude estimation so far [1]. It works well in the linear regime where the l...

In this paper, an optimal batch estimator and filter based on the Minimum Model Error (MME) approach is developed for three-axis stabilized spacecraft. Three different MME algorithms are developed. The first algorithm estimates the attitude of a spacecraft using rate measurements. The second algorithm estimates the attitude without using rate measurements. The absence of rate data may be a resu...
متن کاملAn Adaptive Hierarchical Method Based on Wavelet and Adaptive Filtering for MRI Denoising
MRI is one of the most powerful techniques to study the internal structure of the body. MRI image quality is affected by various noises. Noises in MRI are usually thermal and mainly due to the motion of charged particles in the coil. Noise in MRI images also cause a limitation in the study of visual images as well as computer analysis of the images. In this paper, first, it is proved that proba...

In this paper, a new algorithm is developed for attitude estimation using Global Positioning System (GPS) signals. The new algorithm is based on a predictive filtering scheme designed for spacecraft without rate measuring devices. The major advantage of this new algorithm over traditional Kalman filter approaches is that the model error is not assumed to represented by an unbiased Gaussian nois...
